U.S. Congressman. Moving to Indiana, in 1876, he assisted in the establishment of the dressed-beef industry, was Mayor of Hammond, (1888-93) and was president of the Commercial Bank of Hammond, (1892-93). In 1893, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-third Congress, serving until 1895. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former business pursuits, served as member of the Hammond City Council and a member of the metropolitan police board.
