U.S. Congressman. Born in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, he engaged in the lumber business operated a mill on the Allegheny River, Pennsylvania and a factory at Covington, Kentucky. He also purchased extensive tracts of timberland in Michigan, Wisconsin, had agricultural pursuits in Minnesota and was president of the Citizens’ National Bank. In 1889, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-first Congress, serving until 1891. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former business activities until his death at age 80 in Girard, Pennsylvania.
