US Congressman. Born in Upper Chichester Township, Pennsylvania, he taught school for several years, when he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1840 and commenced to practice in Chester, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1851-52) and served on the Pennsylvania State Revenue Board in 1854. During the Civil War, he served in the Union Army as Captain of Company C, 29th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Men. In 1863, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth, Thirty-ninth and Fortieth Congresses, serving until 1869. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and was judge of the courts of Delaware County, (1874-75). He died at age 78 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
