U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to Georgia in 1854 with the outbreak of The Civil War, he enlisted as a drummer boy in the 1st Georgia Regiment, Confederate Army and later served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 8th Florida Regiment. After the war, he entered the printing business and became editor of the Georgia Bainbridge. He was Mayor of Bainbridge (1881-82), a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives (1882-83) and Postmaster of Bainbridge (1885-90). In 1893, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1897. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his career in publishing until his death.
