Lester Frank Collins, age 89, of Monticello, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center.

Surviving are 3 children, Barb Collins of Coralville, and Jim Collins of Monticello, Jeff (Ellen) Collins of West Branch; 3 grandchildren, Leigha (Ryan) Wagner, Adam (Jodi) Collins, and Sarah Collins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty of 57 years, 3 sisters, Goldie Mae Collins, Mary Belle Cooper, and Frances Pauline Bunting.

Lester Frank Collins was born August 26, 1922 in Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of Frank and Mary Bertha McChristy Collins. Lester was a 1940 graduate of Monticello High School. On February 1, 1947, Lester and Betty Lang were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Lester served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during the European Theatre in WWII. Later he worked for the Milwaukee Railroad Company as a brake man. He also farmed in the Scotch Grove area. In the late 1960's he went to work at Nash Finch as a fork lift operator. Lester later retired in 1986. Lester was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Monticello Airport Board, I-Club; he was a Treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 66 of Monticello.

Lester enjoyed his Army squadron reunions, gardening, Iowa Hawkeye Football, and New York Yankees. Lester was a loving Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend. He will be missed dearly by those who knew him best.
