In 1920 her maternal grandmother, her mother's younger brother, her parents, her brother, and her grandmother's brother John lived in a house they owned, with a mortgage, at 329 Lobinger Avenue, North Braddock, PA. Her uncle Donald worked as a laborer at E.L. Steel, her father as a bricklayer at E.L. Steel, and her granduncle John as a teller at a bank.

In 1930 she, her parents, her brother, and her granduncle John Brantlinger lived in a house they were renting for $45 a month at 803 Fourth Street in North Braddock. They did have a radio. Her father worked as a brick layer at a steel works and John as a teller in a bank.

In 1940 the five of them, plus her husband, lived in the same house. Their rent was only $35 a month after the Great Depression. Her father worked as a bricklayer at a steel mill, Andrew as a laborer in a steel mill, and she as a public school teacher. Their incomes for weeks worked in 1939 were $1500/32, $1400/50, and $1400/36, respectively.

Elizabeth D. Thomas, 90, formerly of North Braddock, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003. Wife of the late Andrew "Red" Thomas. Dear mother of Drew and Bob Thomas. Sister of the late Clarence Drylie, Jr. Also six grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mrs. Thomas retired after 35 years as an elementary school teacher in North Braddock School District. She was a lifetime member of 4th Street Methodist Church, North Braddock. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at WOLFE MEMORIAL INC., Forest Hills Chapel, 3604 Greensburg Pike, Forest Hills, 412-731-5001, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
