JAKOBOWSKI, Benjamin J., age 91, of Centerville passed away September 18, 2011, at St. Leonard. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Julia (Kuroski) Jakobowski of Schenectady, New York and his son-in-law Steve Fisher of Centerville. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret (Taylor) Jakobowski; his brother Robert Jakobowski and wife June of Lynchburg, Virginia; his daughters Barbara Perrone and husband Paul of Moneta, Virginia, and Linda Fisher of Centerville, Ohio, as well as his granddaughters Peggy Weiss and husband Oliver of Hoover, Alabama, and Theresa Seitner and husband Tim of Bellbrook, Ohio, and grandsons Peter Perrone and wife Margaret of Menlo Park, California, and Eric Fisher and wife Jill of Westland, Michigan. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Gray and William Perrone, Samantha and Max Weiss, Taylor Seitner, and Arianna and Brianna Fisher and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben received his BS in Civil Engineering from Union College in Schenectady, New York, in 1942, whereupon he moved to Dayton, Ohio, with his bride to join the war effort at Wright Patterson. His long and distinguished career of accomplishment at Wright Patterson included serving as Acting Director of the Reconnaissance Engineering Laboratory. In October, 1962, he headed the team responsible for installing the cameras in the aircraft that captured the low level photographs of the Soviet missiles installed in Cuba. An avid photographer, he was active in the Tripod Camera Club of Dayton for over 50 years, serving in many capacities, including president, during that time. He was elected a Fellow of the Photographic Society of America and has been the winner of numerous photographic awards. An aviation buff since his arrival at Wright Patterson, he has served as a member of the Board of Nominations of the National Aviation Hall of Fame. He gave generously of his time to the community, serving as a member of SCORE and providing photographic shows and seminars at such venues as the Brukner Nature Center. Ben was a communicant of Immaculate Conception, Emmanuel, and Incarnation Catholic churches during his time in the Dayton area. Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2011, at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45429. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2011, at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 149 Franklin Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402. Entombment Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
