Captain James Bonham was the son of Absalom Bonham and Jemima Harker. He was married to Sophia Butler Smith, daughter of Jacob Smith and Sarah Butler.

In memory of Capt. JAMES BONHAM, BORN May 1st, 1776 DIED Nov. 27th, 1815. A native of Maryland. Although not 16, he was a volunteer at the siege of Yorktown, October 19, 1781. A kind husband, an affectionate father, a good neighbor, his house was a house of hospitality.

Transcribed in August of 1936 by Mrs. Sarah (Waldo) Wilson and printed in the "Smith-Bonham Cemetery" booklet by Charles R. Andrews, III.
