Winnie Fern Nichols Higdon, died Saturday, Oct 28, 1995, at 94 years of age. She was born Sept 1, 1901, in a covered wagon near Apache, IT, the fourth child of Alvin John and Maggie Ellen (Boyd) Nichols. The family was returning from California to settle on their farm in Anadarko, whhere four more children were born.

In 1924, Winnie married Charles Younger Higdon, who died in 1964. together they started Higdons Flower Shop and Nursery in 1926, at 3022 NE 39th. The flower shop, greenhouses, and nursery were a landmark on NW 39th (HiWay 66) for over 50 years.

Winnie was a former school teacher, Deaconess of University Place Christian Church, member of North West Chamber of Commerce, Quota Club, La Petite Book Review Club, and was very active in AARP.

Besides her parents and her husband, Winnie was preceded in death by 2 older brothers, Merle and Raymond, and one sister, Velma Nichols.

She is survived by 5 daughters and sons-in-law, Charwynne and Burl Gulick, LaVernne 'Burny' and Jack Whitnah, Carol and Richard McLennan, Patti and Bill Sharp, and Judy and Melvin Hatley; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lola Gregory, Ruby Gauger, and Eva Heavin; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ione Nichols; sisters-in-law, Vera Nichols and Edna Higdon; brother-in-law Alex Higdon; and many nieces and nephews.
