Dr. Rougon Succumbs to Long Illness – Rites Wednesday For Well-Known Physician Here

Dr. I. B. Rougon, well-known Shreveport physician, died in a local hospital yesterday at 12:30 p.m. following a long illness.

Dr. Rougon, 75, had resided in Shreveport since 1910. He was past president of the Shreveport Medical Society, past president of the American Urological Assn., a member of the American Medical Society, the Southern Medical Society, Tri-State Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society, Fellow American College of Surgeons, the American Legion and the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce.

A resident of 923 Oneonta, he died in Physicians and Surgeons Hospital.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Annie Laurie Lanier Rougon; one step-son, Stewart Jenkins Jr. of Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs. C. W. Watts of Rougon, La. and Mrs. Odeal Lathrum of New Roads; one brother, J. V. Rougon of Rougon and one grandson and one great-grandson.

A Rosary will be said at Osborn Chapel at 8 p.m. Tuesday, with funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Forest Park under Osborn Funeral Home.

Dr. Rougon started practicing medicine in 1909 and came to Shreveport a year later. He was a first lieutenant in World War I. He was educated at Springhill College at Mobile, Ala., and Louisiana State University. He earned his M.D. degree at Tulane and did post-graduate work Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md.

Pallbearers will be Dr. T. J. Smith, Dr. R. K. Womack, Dr. H. M. Yearwood, Dr. J. R. Stamper, Dr. Sam Kerlin and Dr. Richard Granberry of Marshall, Tex.
