Private services for John Hood Forkner, 78, the son of Fresno pioneer land developer J.C. Forkner, will be held Thursday. Mr. Forkner died Monday. He was born in Los Angeles and had lived in Fresno for 75 years. He was a graduate of Fresno High School and the University of Washington.

In the early 1900s, his father developed 12,000 acres of hog wallows as fig-orchards in what is now known as the Fig Garden area of north Fresno.

The younger Mr. Forkner also was a land developer, but achieved more of a reputation as an inventor of food products and processes while serving as a consultant to Pillsbury Mills.

Survivors include his mother, Lewella Forkner of Fresno; a sister, Mary F. Reynolds of Fresno; and a stepdaughter, Debra Gleason of Idaho. Lisle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
