Carl served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24J (#42-99969), Air Base Squadron, 358th Base HQ, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on January 14, 1943 in Syracuse, New York. He was noted as being employed as a Locomotive firemen and also as being Single, without dependents.

Carl died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-24 crashed three miles west of Blythe Army Air Base limits while on a combat training flight during the war.

Blythe Calif - Army officers today announced that seven Army men were killed last night when a Liberator bomber crashed three miles west of the Blythe Army Air Base limits while on a combat training flight. Killed included 2nd LT Carl T. Boland, 20, co-pilot, North Syracuse; Sgt Robert G. Lipczynski, 20, radio operator or Buffalo, and PFC John W. Babkewicz, 28, gunner, New York City.

Members of Lt. Boland's family said last night they received a telephone call yesterday morning from California, informing them of their son's death, but they had no further details of the accident.

Lt. Boland was the son of Frank Boland, an employee of the New York Central Railroad, and Mrs. Boland.

He went into the Army a year ago this month and received his wings and commission as second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps last month at Williams Field, Ariz.

He was born in East Syracuse 20 years ago and lived there all his life, graduating from the East Syracuse High School in June of 1941. Until his induction into the army he worked for the New York Central as a fireman.
