James Center Lamb was born 07 Feb 1836 in Montpelier, VT of parents Isaac "Center" Lamb (b. 18 Dec 1801, d. 14 Oct 1842) and Amanda G. Lamb. The father, Center Lamb, and Amanda were married 24 Oct 1825 in Barre.
James' grandfather was Capt. Larned Lamb (born abt 1780) who married Lydia Sawyer Green (dau of James and Lydia Sawyer of Haverhill, MA) on 1 Jan 1799 in Montpelier. Lydia, James' grandmother, died 4 Jan 1853 at the age of 84 in Montpelier. Her father Col. James Sawyer was a soldier in the Revolutionary War; he and his wife are buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Burlington.
James is not known to be married. He enlisted in the Vermont Infantry on 2 Nov 1862 at age 26 and was mustered out 14 Jul 1865 as Quartermaster Sargent. He was a merchant and salesman in Montpelier and died of rheumatic fever on 18 Mar 1869 in Montpelier.
