“George Ulis Gibson, 87, Springfield, died at 2:20 p.m. Monday, April 12, 1993, in Heritage Manor of Springfield after a long illness.

Mr. Gibson was born August 16, 1905, in Oxford, Ark, the son of Eli E. and Jessie Gibson. He was united in marriage on Dec. 6, 1925, in Arkansas to Leola Turner. They moved to Springfield in 1930, where he owned and operated a grocery business for 30 years. He was a long time member of College Street Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Leola; a daughter, Carol West and her husband, Ted; two granddaughters, Brenda Archie and Rhonda Parker; and a grandson, Don West, all of Springfield; and three great-grandchildren, Justin, Michael and Travis.
He was a loving husband and father, a dear friend and a good Christian man. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him…”
