Charley Greeney
Charley E. Greeney, 89, son of William and Ollie Stump Greeney, was born May 8, 1912. He died Jan. 5, 2002, at his home near Houston of a heart attack. At the age of 4, he went to live with his grandparents, Charley and Alice Greeney. He lived with them until his marriage to Helen Baker Nov. 24, 1933. They had one daughter. Mr. Greeney was a member of the Baptist church at Bucyrus. He worked at 50 cents per hour in the construction of Fort Leonard Wood. During the early years of World War II, he and his family moved to Kansas City and on to Independence, where they were closer to their work at Lake City Ordnance Co., making ammunition for the war effort.
After the war, they moved back to the Houston area, building a new home. He worked at Dundeer Shoe Co., International Shoe and the Lee Co. in the maintenance department. The Greeneys bought a farm south of Houston. They spent time working in town, farming and raising cattle. In 1969, they rented their farm and moved to Fort Myers, Fla., to be with their daughter and family. They moved back to Houston in 1976. After the death of his wife in 1993, he lived alone on the farm. He enjoyed good health, not taking any prescription drugs. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Duard; and one sister, Ruby Brown. Surviving are one daughter, Alice Faye Lynch of Houston; one brother, Paul of the Kabul Nursing Home; one granddaughter and one great-grandson. Services were Jan. 8 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Hamilton officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery.
