MRS. TENA YORK ISLEY
Funeral services for Mrs. Tena York Isley, 66, of Snow Camp, route 2, were held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at Shady Grove church near Staley.
The services were conducted by Rev. H. L. Isley and Rev. J. C. Richards. Music was rendered members of the church choir.
Interment was made in the church cemetery.
Pall bearers: D. C. Williams, Alex Thomas, L. A. Edwards, Clay McPherson.
Flower bearers: Miss Anna Smith, in charge; Misses Wilma McPherson, Dorothy Edwards, Elyne Edwards, Katherine Stewart, Iris York, Goldie York, Mary York, Pauline Isley, Ardith Pegg, Mattie Belle Edwards, Bertha Mae Ward, Mesdames Nancy Spoon, Nancy Jones, John Malone, J. W. Wright.
"Tena and Milton Isley waited over ten years for children of their own and were unable but elected to adopt two girls Sallie and Else."
"All our lives growing up we were told about the danger of ticks and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. We were admonished Remember Great Aunt Tena York Isley died from a tick. Great Aunt Tena E York Isley died a very painfully death from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. We had to protect ourselves by rubbing Kerosine on our socks and clothing to repel ticks especially when going to pick black berries in the summer time. Then we had to be carefully checked for any attached or crawling ticks upon returning home anytime we had been berry picking or in the woods hunting."
