Gary L. Hood, 69, died Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset.
A visitation with family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 5 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. There will be no funeral service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice in Winterset. Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.ochiltree.com. Gary was born September 1, 1942 in Winterset, the son of Wayne and Marion (Monagon) Hood. He graduated from Winterset High School in the class of 1960.
Gary loved collecting antiques and for 15 years his hobby was his job as he operated and managed Hood's General Store in Winterset.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa R. Hood of Phoenix, AZ; three siblings, Robert Hood and his wife, Ginny of Urbandale; Sherill Clark and her husband, Dennis "Doc" of Winterset; Karen Carter and her husband, Ron of Ankeny. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and brother, Sandra Hood and Stephen Hood.
Our family would like to thank all of you who called, made visits, brought food, memorial money to Middle River Hospice and gave prayers during this difficult time. A special thank you to Jake Christensen for taking Gary to dialysis: you will never know how much we all appreciate you. Thanks to Middle River Hospice: your service was a great comfort.
