GOLDTHWAITE -- Sammie Harper, 85, of Star, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in the Hurst Ranch Cemetery in Star with the Rev. Lowell Skaggs officiating and under the direction of Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home of Goldthwaite. The family will receive visitors this evening Dec. 11 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sammie was born on June 5, 1918, in Star, the son of P. O. Harper and Martha "Mattie" Beshears Harper. He married Dessie Caldwell on June 9, 1941, in Brownwood. Sammie was a farmer/rancher and a member of the Star School Board for more than 40 years. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include: two daughters, Darla Guill and Bebe Gault, both of Star; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Forest Harper, of Odessa, Tommy Harper, of Munday, J. D. Harper, of Goldthwaite, Peter Harper, of Star and Billy Harper, of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his wife; one grandchild, Will Gault; and one sister, Doris Hastings.
