Obituary (From a McPherson newspaper)
Charlotte Mary Elizabeth Gatz was born Oct. 9, 1854 at Wendemark, Germany and passed away June 28, 1929 at the McPherson County Hospital.
At the age of eighteen with her parents and family she came to the Untied States and settled near Falls City, Nebraska. In 1875 she was united in marriage to Charles F. Oberst, who with two children Freda Hess and Herman preceded her in death. To this union six children were born. They came to Kansas in 1892, and have lived in and near McPherson. In 1920 she was united in marriage to William Wegman.
She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Germany, and when in Nebraska she united with the Evangelical Church, and after coming to McPherson placed her membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church of which she was a faithful and devoted member at the time of her decease. Mrs. Wegman was a quiet, home loving and devoted Christian. She loved her friends, her church, and her loved ones, and was loved by them. She was a beautiful character, kind disposition, and faithful in her Church attendance and Christian life.
She is survived by her husband, William Wegman of McPherson, four children, P. J. Oberst, Conway; Mrs. Catherine Rose, Westminister,[sic] California; Mrs. Mattie Wiggins, Geneseo; and Albert Oberst, Conway. Fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Five brothers William Gatz, Falls City, Nebraska; C. C. Gatz, McPherson; Fred Gatz, McPherson; and Lewis Gatz, California, and Gus Gatz, Montana.
These with her many friends mourn her departure, yet they mourn not as those who have no hope.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. E. W. Freeman, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the First Methodist Episcopal Church. Music was furnished by Mrs. E. W. Freeman, Mrs. H. C. Rice, Mr. F. F. Regier, and Mr. W. D. Widiger, with Mrs. E. R. Taylor at the organ.
Interment was in the McPherson Cemetery.
