Revolutionary War Patriot. He was in Lexington, Massachusetts, the night of April 18/19, 1775, courting Lydia Mulliken. It was there he met Paul Revere and William Dawes, who were racing through the countryside to warn the citizenry that a force of British regulars were on the march. Prescott, a High Son of Liberty, joined them for their planned ride to Concord. Along the way, a patrol of British soldiers attempted to stop them. Revere was captured, and Dawes was thrown by his horse and ended up walking back to Lexington. Prescott, familiar with the landscape, made his escape by taking his horse off of the road, and brought the vital news to Concord. Later in the Revolutionary War, he joined the crew of a privateer, but was captured by the British and taken to a prison camp in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was there he died and was probably buried in an unmarked grave. The marker pictured here is located at the site of his home in Concord.
