John served as a Colonel and the Pilot of a B-25 in the 12th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war. He is noted as winning the men's open events of the Syracuse District Golf Association in 1917 and 1925.

He worked as an agent for an advertising firm in New York City. He became a commissioned officer in World War I.

He was "Killed In Action" in Italy during the war. He had just landed on an Airfield in Italy with a cargo load of desperately needed radio equipment when he was killed by German artillery fire while taxi down the runway.

His death in noted in book "The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943-1944 (Liberation Trilogy) - Volume 2" by Rick Atkinson.

He also has a "Centotaph" in the Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk, Maine. "Click Here" for that record.
