She was born April 12, 1917 in Abingdon to Elmer and Emma Ethel Ray Jennings. She married Robert H. "Pappy" Sampson on November 12, 1935 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Howard Sampson, one brother and several grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, Robert L. (and Midge) Sampson of Galesburg and Donald (and special friend, Ellen) Sampson of Galesburg; a daughter-in-law, Mary Sampson of RR Galesburg; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a nephew, Bill Jennings of Galesburg..
She had lived in the Abingdon, London Mills and Hermon areas most all her life. She worked as a waitress at Craver's Restaurant in London Mills. She later worked at the Blue Bell Manufacturing Company in Abingdon, as a cook at the Abingdon Nursing Home and then was a housekeeper for 11 years at the Larson Funeral Home in Abingdon.
She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Services will be at 11:00 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to Care Center of Abingdon Resident Activity Fund.
