Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Beulah United Presbyterian Church, Orion, where she was a longtime member. The Rev. Charles Cunningham will officiate. Burial is in Beulah Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kirk, Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion. Memorials may be made to the church.
Violet Marie Gustafson was born Oct. 20, 1915, the daughter of Mabel and Oscar Gustafson, near New Boston, Ill. She was confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, in 1929. She graduated from Moline High School and Moline Business College. She was employed as a bookkeeper for a local construction firm before marrying Elbert John Caughey June 19, 1943, in Moline. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1996.
As a full-time homemaker who always put family first, she goes to God following her husband of 52 years and her only sibling, younger brother Velmar Gustafson. She leaves behind a saddened but grateful family: sons, Michael Caughey, Urbana, Ill., David Caughey, Orion; daughter, Patricia Hansell, Edina, Minn.; grandchildren, Andrew and Kelly Hansell, Chicago; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Caughey and Jim Bevacqua, Minneapolis, Minn.
