Services for Elbert J. Caughey, 80, of 11825 148th Ave., Orion, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Beulah Presbyterian Church, Orion, where he was a member. Burial is in Beulah Cemetery.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kirk Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Memorials may be made to the church.
Mr. Caughey died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1996, at Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, Moline.
He was born Nov. 23, 1915, in Rural Township, Ill., the son of William J. and Ethel McCreery Caughey. He married Violet M. Gustafson June 19, 1943, in Moline.
He farmed his entire life and worked as a shopworker at the Rock Island Arsenal during World War II. He then worked at J.I. Case Co., Rock Island, and later at John Deere Harvester Works for more than 21 years.
He was an elder with the former Homestead Presbyterian Church and Beulah Church, and was a Sunday-school teacher for 45 years at both churches.
He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, gardening, flowers, reading, and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Survivors include the widow; daughters and son-in-law Patricia Hansell, Edina, Minn., and Karen Caughey and Jim Bevacqua, Minneapolis; sons David Caughey, Orion, and Michael Caughey, Urbana, Ill.; grandchildren Andrew Hansell, Minneapolis, and Kelly Hansell, Oxford, Ohio; and a sister, Marian Chrisman, Prescott, Ariz.
