Napoleon (Pole) was the 5th generation Cabaniss from the initial French Huguenot immigrant, Henri Cabaniss on the ship 'Mary and Ann' on July 23, 1700. He married Columbia Ann Bonner-20 yrs his junior-and moved to the Cedar Knob community in 1881 along the Lampasas River. They had 10 children-Lenora, Earl Clarence, Lallie Washington, Maggie E. Lenner Estell, Annie Alta, Gus, Alma Love, William Lacinnis, & Jack Harvey. Pole is reported to have killed 3 men, one of them a Negro. He was found not guilty of murder in 1869. He ran away before age 17 and joined the Confederate army and was wounded in the right forearm. He raised cattle and went on trail drives. Columbia's father objected to their marriage and years later, came to his house with the intent to harm him and fired his gun-but the gun failed to fire. He is remembered for regaling his grandchildren with tales of the past.
