Mrs. Julia C. Benner, widow of Enos T. Benner, was born in Waldoboro, September 14, 1849, and passed away in South Portland Oct. 7, 1929, where she had resided for nearly 60 years. Her surviving relatives are two sons, George and Harold of Portland, one granddaughter Barbara and one sister, Mrs. Susan D. Condon of Friendship. Funeral services were observed at her home, Ocean Street, Portland. There was a large attendance, and many floral tributes. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Mrs. Benner received a liberal education, graduate of the Waldoboro High School, Rev. Justin K. Richardson, teacher, exercise in the First Baptist Church. The only living member of the class is George Killburn Comery of Portland. After completing the course she attended Colby College, and later taught in her native town with marked success. She was a member of the Baptist Church, and Sunday School in Waldoboro and sang in the choir. In Portland she affiliated with the Church of Immanuel where she was highly esteemed. Mrs. Benner had been ill for some time. She was ambitious but patient and never complained nor murmured. She was likeable and lovable and deserves the remarkable tribute, "A fond and faithful mother, a good neighbor, a good citizen and a good Christian." Her memory will always be charished.
