Mrs. Mary Langford Claimed By Death
Mrs. Mary Langford, beloved mother, died at Purple Hills Nursing Home Friday, where she had been a resident for several months. She had been very ill for several weeks and death came early Friday morning, August 20, 1971 to relieve her suffering.
Mrs. Mary Emma Langford was born in Bandera on February 12, 1880, and was 91 years of age at the time of her death. She was the daughter of early pioneer residents, George and Virginia (Minear) Hay. She grew to lovely womanhood here and on December 6, 1899 was happily married to B. F. Langford, Jr.
Several children were born to this union, a number of them dying in infancy. One son, Wirth, and one daughter, Mrs. Lora Hunter, as well as her husband, B. F. Langford, Jr., preceded her in death. Mr. Langford passed away in 1950.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. C. H. Langford of Florence, Texas, Othell Langford of Hope, Arkansas and Eldon Langford of San Antonio; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Ola Wild of Austin, and a number of nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
Mrs. Langford was interested in the affairs of the community and was instrumental in the establishment of the Re-organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, situated on Delightful Hill, where she was a faithful member. She was a charter member of the Bandera Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and served for many years as Chapter Mother.
Funeral services for the beloved lady were conducted Saturday, August 21, 1971 from Plummer Funeral Home with Elder Carl Wheeler, of the Re-organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Austin officiating. Elder Wheeler eulogized her life and one of her grandsons, Clifford Langford, paid her a beautiful tribute in song.
Graveside services were conducted under the auspices of the Bandera Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and she was laid to rest by the side of her husband in Bandera Cemetery.
Pallbearers were D. E. Conwill, Jr., J. O. Evans, Edgar Habenicht, Ashley Rugh, G. T. Sandidge, Jr., and W. J. Schmidt.
