U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to New York, in 1846, he engaged in the mining, lumber and the transportation business. He was supervisor of Ticonderoga, New York, (1864-65). He also was president of the First National Bank of Ticonderoga, director of the International Paper Company, the St. Maurice Lumber Company and a member of the New York State Assembly, in 1876. In 1883, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1887. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his previous business venues until death from appendicitis at age 68.
