Hartley H. Bonney
Funeral services were held in Canby Friday morning for Hartley Harrison Bonney, 71, of Canby who died Tuesday evening in an Oregon City hospital following an illness of three months. Rev. Paul N. Roth officiated. Interment was in the Belle Passi cemetery at Woodburn.
Mr. Bonney was born in Woodburn January 23, 1882, the son of George and Eunice Nash Bonney whose ancestors were covered wagon pioneers in the Woodburn-Hubbard and Independence areas respectively, and the great-grandson whom he adopted as a son, pioneer of 1846. He farmed in the Monitor-Woodburn area from 1914 to 1947, then went to Canby where he has lived since.
He was married to Miss Edith M. Maffett in Woodburn on June 7 1905. She died several years ago. In 1947, he married Jessie Taylor Wyland who survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. A. G. Nowels (Neale) of Beaverton; one grandson who he adopted as a son, James Hartley Bonney, in the navy stationed in Maryland; four brothers, Roy Bonney of Woodburn, Willard and Wiley Bonney of Grants Pass, and Harry Bonney of Roseburg; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Cole of Salem, Mrs. Cassidy Hayes and Mrs. Neil Thomas of San Diego, Cal. One daughter, Leona, passed away in 1945.
