Miss Bessie T. Smale, 95, member of a pioneer Chicago family of grocers, died yesterday in the Community Memorial hospital near La Grange.
Miss Smale, who lived in Plymouth place, a Congregational church home in La Grange, was born in Chicago at Randolph and Sangamon sts. in 1861 and later worked as a clerk in her father’s grocery at 121 W. Madison st. She was the oldest member of the First Congregational church at Washington blvd. and Ashland av. Surviving are a nephew, Robert, and a niece, Marion E. Smale. Services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Thursday in the chapel at 5708 Madison st.
