HARTFORD CITY--James Edward Snapp, Sr. "Jim", 78, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2011 at his residence.

He was born in Shelbyville on May 1, 1933 to Ervin Dale Snapp and Sarah Minnie (Stoughton) Snapp.

Jim graduated from Mt. Auburn High School and attended Indiana University and graduated from Ball State University. He served in the United State Air Force.

He married Janet J. (Garrison) Snapp on February 4, 1961 in Shelbyville, IN. She precedes him in death on March 11, 1983.

Jim was an engineer at Sheller Globe in Montpelier and the production manager. He was a member of Blackford County Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, music where he played the guitar, banjo, mandolin, steel guitar and harmonica. He also enjoyed writing and being a "Bird Watcher". He was known for his great sense of humor.

Jim will be sadly missed by his sons, James E. (wife-Connie) Snapp, Jr. of Elizabethtown, IN, Dale R. Snapp (friend-Alicia) of Hartford City, and Robert R. Snapp of Decatur; daughters, Kathy J. Snapp of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Rhonda K. Trees (husband-Mark) of Eaton; stepdaughter, Patricia A. Dunavold of Rosamond, CA; stepson, Donald L. Haag (wife-Kathy) of Martinsville, IN; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, E. June Foreman of Shelbyville, Ruth Stanton (husband-Don) of Flat Rock, IN, Mary Wissing (husband-Gary) of Milan, IN, and Carolyn Crouch (husband-Dick) of Flat Rock, IN; brothers, John Dale Snapp (wife-Margie) of Shelbyville, IN, and Bill Snapp (wife-Michelle) of Marietta; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his companion for 20 years, Phyllis Rose, who died on October 8, 2008; sister, Wilma Eller; and brother, Robert Snapp.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Eaton, IN. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Keplinger Funeral Home.
