Mrs. Sallie (Potter) Simms died at the age of 73 at her home near Forestburg, TX on January 15, 1928. Funeral services were held at the Perryman cemetery Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Jackson of Gainesville, pastor of the Nazarene church, officated. Deceased was a member of this church. Interment was under the direction of C.H. Dunbar, funeral director.
Sallie was born in Tennessee on October 7, 1854 to Zac Potter and Mary Aaron. She moved to Texas at a young age and married Peter J. Simms in Fannin County in 1872. They lived for the last 30 years in Montague County near Gladys and Forestburg.
Mrs. Sallie Simms was perceeded in death by her husband, Peter Joseph Simms, just 10 days prior. Her survivors included five children: George Simms of Marlow, OK; Gracia (Simms) Carpenter of Ardmore, OK; Tennie (Simms) Boyds of Forestburg, TX; Nettie (Simms) Shultz of Kingsville, TX and Annie (Simms) Harrison of Marlow, OK. Nettie and Annie were not in attendace at the services due to illness.
Inscription
Headstone states name as Sarah. However, both original obituaries for Sallie and Peter Joseph (died 10 prior to Sallie) state her name as Sallie. Also, marker states birth year as 1855, original obituary states Birth year as 1854.
