Peter Joseph Simms at the age of 79, died at his home in Montague County, Texas on Wednesday, January 4, 1928. A funeral service was held at the Perryman cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, January 5., Rev. Hill, of Bowie, officated. Interment was under the direction of C.H. Dunbar, funeral director.
Peter Joseph was born in Kentucky on September 14, 1848 to Samuel Simms and Ellen Bradley. He went to Texas as a young man and married Sallie in Fannin County in 1872. He lived in Wise County and later in Jack County until 1897. He moved to Montague County in the Gladys community and later settled ten miles northeast of Sunset where he lived until his death.
Survivors included his wife, Sallie A. (Potter) Simms, four daughters: Mrs. Tennie (Simms) Boyd of Forestburg, TX; Annie (Simms) Harrison of Marlow Oklahoma; Nettie (Simms) Shultz of Kingsville, TX and Gracia (Simms) Carpenter of Ardmore, OK; as well as one son; George Simms of Marlow OK.
