Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He died as a POW in the Confederate Prison at Andersonville, Georgia. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company B, 59th New York Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His citation reads "Capture of flag of a Georgia regiment."
