Luther was a Fireman for Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad
- he at the wreck of a train accident near Woodbrook Station.
his foot was caught near the wrecked engine- in effort to save his life- Dr J.M.T. Finney extricated Luther Peyton only after cutting off his leg by a pocket knife and carpenters saw- as reported in the Baltimore American May 26, 1920
