U.S. Congressman. He attended St. Bridget’s Academy, graduated from St. Peter’s College, in 1897, from the New York Law School, in 1899, was admitted to the bar in 1900 and commenced to practice law in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was a member of the New Jersey State House of Assembly, (1902-05). In 1907, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixtieth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1921. After World War I, he represented the Ukrainian people of the United States at the Peace Conference in Paris, in 1919 and was decorated Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor for his work in French literature. He resumed the practice of law and was on the corporation counsel of Jersey City, from 1932, until his death at age 64.
