US Congressman. Born in Belle Vue, Hagerstown, Maryland, he St. Mary's College in 1813, then moved to Livingston County, New York and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was supervisor of Groveland (1817-18, 1822, 1840, 1818), Livingston County Judge (1823-29), served in the New York State Senate (1827-28) and was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1836. In 1843, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-eighth and Twenty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1847. Not a candidate for renomination, he managed his estate near Groveland, New York, until his death at age 71.
