Calvin Gene Parker, resident of rural Shidler, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at his home. He was 84 years of age.
Calvin was born February 2, 1927 at Webb City, Oklahoma, the son of J.L. Parker and Ora Mae (Anglin) Parker. He was a 1945 graduate of Shidler High School. He was married to Mary Ellen Parks on February 2, 1945 in Pawhuska. Calvin served his country in the United States Army from June 1945 until January 1947 and was assigned to the 55th Military Police Company. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
After his military service he and Mary Ellen moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where he was employed in the oil field. He later worked in the Kansas wheat fields, and then was employed some seven years for the Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company. He returned to oil field work with the couple living from 1953 until 1989 in the Oklahoma panhandle before returning to Webb City in 1990. He had been employed some 45 plus years in oil field work.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly Church in Fairfax. His biggest enjoyment was working. Calvin enjoyed working around the house, building different things, mechanic work, welding and playing his guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, of the home; three daughters, Pamela Grass of Shidler, Mira Jones and husband, Denny, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Gay Eileen Swenson of Shidler; two sons, Edwin David Parker of Shidler and Ronald Wayne Parker and wife, Shawna, of Apperson; one brother, Melvin Parker and wife, Erlene, of Carthage, Missouri; two sisters, Fern Easter of Tulsa and Arlene Hess and husband, Don, of San Diego, California; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; he was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Debra Ann Blackwell.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Full Gospel Assembly Church in Fairfax with Pastor Lewis Bernard presiding. Interment will be in the Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.
Casket bearers will be Edwin Parker, Ronnie Parker, Jason Parker, Eric Swenson, David Blackwell and Denny Jones.
