Staff Sgt. Nicholas A. Sprovtsoff, 28, of Davison, Mich., died Sept. 28 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Sprovtsoff was assigned to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Nicholas was genuinely loved by many and will be forgotten by none. He loved being a Marine and was strong, smart and willing to do any job set before him. He balanced that inherent toughness with a dazzling, freckled grin and a kind heart, especially for his wife and children. He touched many lives and has left a monumental absence in the hearts of many. Also surviving are maternal grandmother Jacquelin Reinertson of Davison, MI; parents-in-law Sue and Rod Fogle of Colville, WA; sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Ross) Challinor of Colorado Springs, CO, and Alaina Fogle of Seattle, WA; brother-in-law Robert Fogle of Seattle, WA; uncles Alex (Dorothy Nolan) Sprovtsoff of Michiana Shores, IN; Michael (Carol) Sprovtsoff of Fernandina Beach, FL; Ray Sprovtsoff of CO; Chuck Reinertson of Traverse City, MI; Tom Reinertson of Bellevue, WA; aunts Susie Williams of Gary, IN, and Debbie Reinertson; and several loving cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Donald Reinertson and paternal grandparents Alexander and Winona Sprovtsoff.
