U.S. Congressman. Graduating from Washington Academy, in 1818, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1823 and commenced to practice law in Salem and Whitehall, New York. He was justice of the peace for Whitehall, a member of the New York State Assembly in 1840 and supervisor of Whitehall, (1845, 48-49). In 1851, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress, serving until 1853. After his term, he was president of the Whitehall village, special surrogate of Washington County, (1857-59) and practiced law until his death at age 68.
