U.S. Congressman. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a Sergeant in the Continental Army and after the war, he studied medicine and became a practicing physician in Salem, New York. He was Salem Justice of the Peace, (1799-1810), president of the Washington County Medical Society 1806-11) and county judge in 1810. In 1811, he was elected as a Federalist to the Twelfth Congress, serving until 1813. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his position as county judge, (1814-21), president of the Washington County Medical Society, (1814-26) and practiced medicine until his death at age 77.
