U.S. Congressman. He taught school, was employed with the Reading Railroad Company and was a member of the board of education in Reading, Pennsylvania. In 1861, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-seventh, Thirty-eighth and Thirty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1867. After his term, he was in the trust, fire-insurance and relief-association, plus a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1880. Plus he engaged in banking and in the insurance business until his death at 88.
