Cartoonist. Sometimes thought of as Japan's Walt Disney, he developed a unique style and variety of characters. He illustrated many journals of humorous and science-fiction stories, and later adapted these into cartoons for television. He was the recipient of the 1985 City of Tokyo's cultural award.
