Musician and singer. At the age of 19, she made her debut in Japan in the opera "Orfeo ed Euridice." After earning much critical acclaim, she moved to Germany in 1914, and thereafter spent many years in England, the United States of America, and Italy. Everywhere she went, she fascinated people with her magnificent voice. She appeared as "Madame Butterfly" over 2000 times. Puccini, the composer of "Madame Butterfly", said that the role was made for her. She continued to perform after returning to Japan. There are several music awards in Japan named in her honor.
