Edward was born in Salisbury, MA, the son of the late Amelia (Hamel) and Alphonse Mercier. He grew up in Lawrence, MA. Edward served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed cabinet maker and co-owned Rushton & Mercier Woodworking Co. in Salem.
Edward was a member of the Salem Contractors Association and a former member of St. Joseph Church and the Knights of Columbus in Salem and St. Patrick's Church in Pelham. He enjoyed watching Westerns and loved spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (Gamache) Mercier, and his siblings, Raymond, Yvette, Lorraine and Gladys.
He is survived by a son, Edward Jr. and Beverly of Raymond; 6 daughters, Geraldine and Robert Boisvert Jr. of Merrimack, Cynthia and David DerHagopian of FL, Jeanne and Stephen Miller of Windham, JoAnn and David Hicks of Salem, Tammy and Mark Buatti of Salem, Lynne and James Patterson of Hooksett; sisters, Antoinette Bourget of Atkinson, Janet Chabot of Methuen; brother-in-law, Augustine Gamache of Pelham; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
