He was born June 21, 1956, in Toledo, Ohio. Jim was raised in Milan, Ohio and was a 1974 graduate of Edison High School where he was active on the wrestling team. He had made his home in Camden Township for the last 18 years
Jim was an expert welder and was employed through the Boilermakers Local #744 in Cleveland for thirty-four years. He was also a skilled lumberjack and owned and operated Jim's Tree Service. Jim was a member of Beacon Baptist Church in Lorain. He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior of his life on April 18, 1974. Jim was an ordained minister and was a 1988 graduate of Massillon Bible College. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and listening to gospel and blue grass music. Jim also enjoyed building bluebird houses as well as gardening.
Survivors include his wife of thirty years Laura Young (nee: Thomas); his sons James E. Young, III of Columbus, Jason Young and his daughter Kimberly Young both at home; his father James A. Young of Milan; his sisters Peggy Switzer and her husband John of South Bend, Indiana, Sharon Stutzman and her husband Terry of Clarkston, Michigan, Rita Dauch of Dallas, Texas and Alice Young of Vermilion; his brothers and their wives John and RuthieYoung of Mansfield, Neil and Anna Young of Clancy, Montana and and Leo and Susan Flynn Young of East Windsor, New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his mother Florence B. Young (nee: Ackenheil) on April 28, 2010 and by his sister Patricia Young.
Friends may call Thursday, September 29, 2011, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Beacon Baptist Church; 3407 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, OH. The Rev. Aaron Webb, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Camden Cemetery, Camden Township.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the care of the family so that it may be donated to a Bipolar Disorder charity yet to be designated.
