He was the fifth child of Kinney and Mary Gallup, and the second one to pass away, his older brother preceding him, who died October 8, 1916.
He resided at the home farm until coming to Iowa in 1894, where he lived on a farm six miles southwest of Birmingham, later moving to Birmingham. On January 11, 1899, he was married to Endovia Penn, to which union were born nine children, six boys and three girls. Besides the wife and children, he leaves to mourn two brothers, W. K. Gallup of Libertyville, Iowa, John S. Gallup, Chillicothe, Ill., two sisters, Emma Briggs, Libertyville, Iowa, and Mrs. Nellie Custer, Chillicothe, Ill., all but the latter be present at the funeral.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C. E. Baumgarten.
