Elsie Mae Snider

Elsie Mae Snider, 100, of Upper Grass Run Road, Glenville, departed this life at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care, Grantsville, following a two-week illness.

Born Aug. 16, 1905, in Braxton County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. F.H. and Clara Cox.

Mrs. Snider was a homemaker and formerly attended the Letter Gap United Methodist Church. Until her illness two weeks ago, Mrs. Snider lived by herself and cared for herself and on Aug. 13, celebrated her 100th birthday along with more than 100 family and friends.

Surviving are four daughters and three sons: Roxie Rhoades and husband, Latus, of Washington; Frances Tomey and husband, Arnett, of Bel Air, Md.; Tincie Bonnett and husband, Charles, of Columbia, Ga.; Doris Dellinger and husband, Chester, of Parkersburg; Elden "Mitch" Snider of Glenville; Jim Snider and wife, Brenda, of Letter Gap; and Larry Snider and wife, Judy, of Letter Gap.

There are 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great grandchildren surviving. Also surviving are one brother, Hiram L. Cox of Lancanto, Fla., two sisters: Lillian Baker and husband, Lester, of Letter Gap; and Marguerite Carpenter and husband, Harless, of Elyria, Ohio.

Mrs. Snider was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Teresa Dellinger, Arnett Tomey Jr., and Katherine Reider; three sons: Ernest Snider Jr., Wallace D. Snider, and Cline Snider; two daughter-in-laws: Mrs. Elden "Arlene" Snider, and Mrs. Ernest "Oriene" Snider; two sisters: Bea Dobbins and Minnie Cox; four brothers: Dale Cox, Bernard Cox, Roy Cox and Carl Cox.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, at Ellyson Mortuary in Glenville, with Rev. Larry Fisher. Burial was in the Meadows Cemetery at Normantown.
