A. J. BATT DIES AT HOME IN FORBESTOWN


Augustus Batt of Forbestown, died suddenly, Saturday afternoon at his home in that place. He was out in his garden and was found lying unconscious by his young son. Dr. Van Male of Challenge was summoned but, arrived too late. He pronounced the case apoplexy, but Coroner William Johnson held an inquest Sunday.


Mr. Batt was a native of New York, aged 57 years and 8 months. He came to Butte County forty years ago.

Twenty-five years ago, he moved to Forbestown, forming a sawmill partnership with his father- in-law, I.N. Ryant. About thirteen years ago Mr. Batt bought the general merchandise business of Mi. Burroughs and has followed that and mining since.


He leaves a wife, a daughter, Hazel, two sons Clarence and Donald, and one brother, Alois Batt, of Buffalo. New York. The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at Brownsville cemetery.
