According to newspaper articles from The News Palladium, Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1898, Florence "Flossie" Swartz was the daughter of Wilson and Emma Swartz. She and her sisters were removed from the home when her mother abandoned the family and ran off to Chicago and her father, a 'drunkard', was unable to provide care.
